It's horrible to be sick in the Philippines. I'm generally not a sickly kid so I had no awareness at all at how comparatively expensive drugs are here. i just thought that they're meant to be expensive. Then during our orientation for medical school, a priest from India (yes, I'm in a school run by Jesuits) said medicines here were 8 times more expensive than in India. INDIA! Our President has a program that sells medicines 50% less than the usual price by shipping it from India. Jesus, the injustice. Maybe we should start a market for homeopathic remedies so the drug companies would be forced to bring down their prices.
Back to me. Like I said, I am not sickly but I do have allergic rhinitis. Considering that cockroaches are the number one triggers for an attack and we live in a country that has more cockroaches than people (which is saying a lot), you can imagine how many attacks I get in a week.
It's just an allergy. A single antihistamine would solve the problem easy. But do you know how much antihistamines are here?! the cheapest non-sedative is 30 pesos, roughly $0.60 I can buy a kilo of rice with that kind of money.
