A legal dilemma

Fact 1: In any admitting order, there is always a line that says. "Secure consent to care."

Fact 2: It is either the patient or the patient's relative who signs said consent form.

Fact 3: I am my brother's admitting physician.

Fact 4: I am my brother's sister, hence I signed the consent form.

I could be wrong but I think there's a legal issue here somewhere.

Not that my brother would sue me for malpractice or anything. Hit him in the 'nads if he does. Hehehe... Because that's what sisters do. ^_^

Anyway, my brother is on his 7th day of confinement for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and his platelet is going everywhere but up. His gums are bleeding and he needs to be transfused 12 units of fresh frozen plasma.

Point of this blog is that there certainly are a few perks to working in a hospital where your family is admitted. I get to request that they time IV reinsertions to blood extractions so my brother doesn't get poked by needles unnecessarily. I can call anytime to ask for lab results. I can check the chart for any new medications. (Because patients aren't allowed to just rifle through their charts.) And when there is a need for blood, I know exactly who to ask regarding blood bank numbers, insurance reimbursements and other such concerns.

And so... yeah. It would still be better though if my brother wasn't sick at all.
