We all have our stereotypes. Dumb blondes, dorky choirboys, weird girls in pigtails..
And then there are people who prove stereotypes wrong. And it's not always in a good way.
I was riding the ambulance, accompanying a patient for cranial CT scan in another hospital and at 2:00 in the afternoon, traffic was just horrible.
I usually like ambulance rides because it has that Grand Theft Auto feel. All vehicles, out of the effin' way! Woot! It's kinda like that scene in Bruce Almighty where all the cars move aside to let Jim Carrey's car pass through.
Anyway, that was not what happened today. Although most vehicles tried their best to hug the sidewalk and let us through, there were just some idiots who tried to race the ambulance. Really.
Here's what happened. In one of the smaller roads leading back to the hospital, traffic was really bad. We were stuck behind a truck loaded with cows and some rickety old car but once there was enough space to move aside, those cars moved aside.
Then we got to the highway and while the road was not as congested, we were still met by some obstruction because some fool driving a Ford Focus tried to speed past us.
You would think that compared to a cattle farmer, a person driving a Ford would know better than try to overtake an ambulance. But no.
Hurrah to all those blue collar, minimum-wage workers out there who have the good sense to know that on a busy highway, the AMBULANCE is KING.
P.S. I was really, really bored yet really, really pissed so excuse the somewhat disjointed blog entry.
