I've had the same mobile phone number for 5 years until less than a month ago, I decided to buy another SIM card because Smart Communications was stealing my load. Okay, maybe they weren't stealing my load inasmuch as I may have accidentally subscribed to their downloadable ringtones and was too lazy to actually trot off to their office to have it cancelled.
Anyway, I updated my gazillion contacts regarding my change of number.
Yesterday, I decided that I had enough running out of load so I got a postpaid line. Had to update my gazillion contacts, again, but this time, people were asking me the reason I changed numbers twice in less than a month. Here are the more interesting assumptions.
The Breakup
Apparently, some people deal with breakup by changing their number. Either by warranted fears or merely conceit, they believe that their ex would send a barrage of messages with different versions of "I hate you" or worse, asking to get back together. For the record, I never change my number after a breakup. Maybe because my ex-boyfriends aren't creepy.
The Stalker
I admit this is what I would have assumed, as well. But really, who would stalk me? That would be like, stalking a stalker. Yeah, if only the object (objects? who's counting...) of my stalkerish nature where anywhere within the city, I would be on him like... uh... like a fly on flypaper!
The Robbery
Really, people. Come on. If I were informing you of my change of number using my old number, why in the world would my phone being stolen be a foregone conclusion? What, I went up to the thief and asked if he would be so nice as to give me my SIM card back before he pawns off my phone? Please.
The SIM Collector
Seriously, someone did ask.
