I set my alarm to 6:00AM last Monday so I wouldn't be late for my 7:30 AM duty at the Del Monte Clinic. The jeepneys going to Bugo tend to stop every few kilometers or so to pick up passengers, making what could easily be a 15-minute trip into a 45-minute journey. So when I woke up at 6:45, I was clearly panicking. I was sure I never heard the alarm go off but obviously, I was going to be late. I was on a jeepney by 7:10 and prayed (I pray for the strangest things) and begged for the jeepney to just go straight to Bugo and not make so many unnecessary stops.
And then the strangest thing happened.
There were traffic enforcers at every corner where jeepneys usually picked up passengers. And they were enforcing the No Loading Rule. AND the jeepney drivers were actually complying! Miracle!
I was still 5 minutes late but hey, it could have been worse. Or so I thought.
I arrived right smack in the middle of a cholera epidemic and was admitting patients left and right clear until 12 midnight.
God works in mysterious ways.
I should have known.
